In a hardcore survival I should not be struggling to find room for my 3rd storage crate of excess food 2 weeks into the game. Whether that's requiring some water, going back to how old farming working and adjusting that system or something. The correct fix is to nerf farming yields considerably or to add more to do with them. This is hardly the "hardcore survival" that this game advertises itself as or even compared to earlier alphas.

rigggght up until you need to code and implement that shit and realize you just made a system as complex as half of your game. possibly add a green house system in the late game. maybe force the player to build infrastructure to irrigate the crops.

The correct way to go about it would be to try and keep it as grounded as possible. there are many ways to put a balanced farming system in the game but they all have trade offs. That is a rather massive issue to have in game in which a major part of its gameplay loop is going out and finding stuff to survive.īut at the same time farming is a cool concept and almost expected to exist. The big issue with farming in general is that it is inherently a system designed so that you eventually do not need to go out and find stuff to survive.
